Basic situation
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (French: La R é Publique D é mocratique Du Congo), referred to as the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), is located in Central Africa, adjacent to Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania in the East, Zambia and Angola in the south, South Sudan and Central Africa in the north, and Congo (Brazzaville) across the Congo River in the West. The capital is Kinshasa, with a land area of 2344885 square kilometers.
From the 13th to 14th centuries, it was a part of the kingdom of Congo. At the Berlin Conference in 1885, it was designated as the "private land" of King Leopold II of Belgium, known as the free state of the Congo. It was taken over by the Belgian Government in 1908 and changed to Belgium Congo. It became independent on June 30, 1960 and was named the Republic of the Congo (Congo for short). It was changed to its current name in 1964. It was renamed the Republic of Zaire in 1971. Since 1997, the country was restored to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is one of the world's least developed countries announced by the United Nations. The economy is dominated by agriculture and mining, and the industry is underdeveloped.
On January 10, 2019, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Election Commission said that the opposition presidential candidate Felix chisekdi won the presidential election of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and would be sworn in on January 18.
